Doctoral Research Group: "Christianity and the Other Monotheistic World Religions: History and Encounters"

The aim of the doctoral research group is to investigate historical, systematic, and practical perspectives of the individual monotheistic world religions and/or encounters between them. One of the main themes the group focuses on is interreligious dialogue – a topic which is currently a great challenge, also and especially against the backdrop of secular civil societies and their negation. Elucidating these perspectives necessarily involves in-depth study of the various historical, systematical, and practical dimensions of these religions and the connections between them. Only by clearly elaborating the specific theological approaches of these religions and their forms of spirituality is it possible to understand the range and the limits of these perspectives and find a way to analyze discourses among the religions. At the same time, the group considers how the monotheistic world religions are integrated into the societies in which they are practiced and what stance they take on questions of secularization, human rights, political systems, etc. In order to analyze these issues, the doctoral research group holds regular meetings in which members of the group present their dissertation topics and discuss previously introduced perspectives with specialists in more depth.
